Dr. Cansler was awarded a prestigious three-year fellowship from the National Institutes of Health and National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) to study the brain mechanisms that allow for selective attention to odors.
In her postdoctoral NRSA F32 fellowship, titled, “Odor-Directed Attention and the Medial Prefrontal Cortex,” Dr. Cansler will use optogenetics and fiber photometry from rats engaged in a selective attention task to determine how prefrontal cortex neurons represent selective attention and also how exactly they may contribute to odor-guided decisions and perceptions.
Congratulations, Hillary! We’re so proud of you!
